Gardaí have issued a warning to the public on an alleged telephone scam known as ‘vishing’, used to obtain bank information from unsuspecting members of the public, which occurred in the area this week.
‘Vishing’ is the use of the telephone by criminal entities to deceive people into providing personal information.

The lady was informed by the bogus ‘bank official’ that funds had gone missing from her account, asking her to confirm her account details.
Luckily, the intervention of a friend in her company averted what could have been a costly mistake, in informing the bogus caller of her banking details.
