
A report regarding Rathcormac’s Hanging Trees was issued to elected members last week, as the original trees are to be cut down to stumps.
Cork County Council Heritage Officer, Conor Neligan, visited the site in March and has since issued a recommendation for a plan regarding the historic trees going forward.
Speaking at last Thursday’s meeting of the Fermoy Municipal District, senior engineer Brendan O’Gorman outlined the proposals that would see the trees cut down to stumps, at which point a preserving resin would be applied and a plaque installed on top to indicate the historic feature.
In doing this, Mr O’Gorman noted that the historical context of the site would remain in place.
