It was the turn of the Mitchelstown Community Council to impress the IPB Pride of Place judges on Wednesday of this week, following their nomination for the prestigious award by Cork County Council for the services they provide to the community at their new facility at New Square.

Described as the ‘epitome of civic pride and excellence in Mitchelstown’ by Cllr June Murphy, Forrest Hall and Mitchelstown Community Council will be one of five community groups to fly the  flag for Cork in this year’s IPB Pride of Place Competition in association with Co-operation Ireland.

Addressing the judges and dignitaries who attended the presentation at Forrest Hall, Mitchelstown Community Council chairman Sean Finn, began by giving a history of the Forrest Hall building.

Mr Finn explained how the building was once used as an undertaking business on the ground floor with social dancing taking centre stage on the first floor of the building.
