After performing to sell-out crowds in Castlelyons over four nights, the cast of John B. Keane’s ‘The Field’ performed by Castlelyons Drama Group, will once again take to the stage on this Sunday night, February 12th in aid of Irish Cancer Society Daffodil Nurses. Please note that the show will start at 8pm sharp.

The show is directed by Denis Buckley, with Bull McCabe portrayed by Donal Howard and newcomer Peter O’Leary takes up the role of the Bull’s son, Tadhg. Other central figures include: The Bird O’Donnell (Nelius Murphy), Mick Flanagan (Dermot O’Sullivan) and Mamie Flanagan (Mary Barry-Donnellan). Ber O’Sullivan is cast as Maggie Butler. The unfortunate, William Dee, is played by Donal O’Leary, with James O’Sullivan as Leamy Flanagan.

The programme notes describe Dandy McCabe as ‘honest’ and ‘jovial’, which meant there was no real acting for theatrical all-rounder, James Murphy. Mrs McCabe, Dandy’s wife, is played by Claire Quirke. Des O’Keeffe is local law enforcement officer, Tom Leahy; also taking the high moral ground are clerics, Fr Murphy (Nelius O’Brien) and The Bishop (Denis Crowley).

Centring on a fatal obsession with land and the power of a silent conspiracy, this play rarely fails to resonate with audiences.
