New fire station proposed for Mitchelstown

Mitchelstown is one of two fire stations in North Cork currently being investigated for upgrading, and it is expected that recommendations will be put before elected members of the Fermoy Municipal District in the coming weeks.

News of plans for fire stations in North Cork came on foot of a motion tabled by Cllr Ian Doyle at the Northern Divisional Committee meeting, requesting that Cork County Council give an update on the capital investment plan for upgrading fire stations in Cork county, with particular emphasis on those in the Northern Division.

Chief Fire Officer, Andrew Macilwraith, responded stating that the fire service recently submitted its Capital plan to the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management.

“This Capital Plan outlines 4 new fire stations that we consider are in need of replacement. This plan proposes new fire stations at Dunmanway, Charleville, Mitchelstown and Youghal,” Mr Macilwraith said.
