Jonathan Meade, Director of Hutton & Meade Dublin, was elected President of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) at the organisation’s recent AGM, held in Killashee Hotel, Naas, Co. Kildare.
Speaking at the event, Jonathan Meade, President of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry commented: “It is an honour to serve as President for the coming year. This is an industry where everything is possible. Opportunity exists where a young apprentice can become a dealer principal. It’s our time to throw down the ladder, bringing new blood into our industry. Creating opportunity for school leavers and other professionals to join our industry.”
Like other businesses, the Motor Industry has faced many challenges over the years. Mr Meade highlighted the significance of investing in people and technology. This will help to drive the industry and the electrification project forward.
Mr Meade continued: “For our business and for the wider membership, the electrification of the national fleet is one of the industry’s biggest challenges but also importantly one of its biggest opportunities. The greater availability of EV models that we now see in showrooms has helped to build momentum, but the industry is not solely responsible for decarbonisation. Of equal importance is the Government’s role, and they simply must maintain the incentives and support which help to encourage our customers in making the switch to EV and reassure them in their purchase choice.”
Mr Meade has enjoyed 43 years in the Motor Industry. He started as junior (apprentice) salesperson, rising to sales manager where he gained an invaluable learning experience of the industry. This would lead Jonathan to become a director.
In 1994 he opened his own dealership Hutton & Meade along with his business partner Joe Hutton. This year sees Hutton & Meade celebrating 30 years in business.
In conclusion, Mr Meade expressed his gratitude to members of the Society for this opportunity to serve as President for the upcoming year.
