Cappoquin local Jayson Molumby made his senior international soccer debut on Sunday last, September 6 versus Finland at the Aviva Stadium.
Selected to play midfield by manager Stephen Kenny in the new manager’s second outing in the UEFA Nations League, a number of changes were made to the team that drew with Bulgaria the previous Thursday.
While the game ended in a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Finland, for Molumby, it was a major leap in his career, playing for his country for the first time.
Claire, Jayson’s mother told The Avondhu that for her, it was ‘nerve wrecking’ to see her son debut on live TV. “You’d be anxious for him, and worried about him, it’s a tough industry,” she said.
