Craft brewery, Eight Degrees Brewing in Mitchelstown, are calling on the public to help them on their way to becoming one of the largest independent craft breweries in Ireland.

The demand for the Eight Degrees produce has been increasing so much that the company struggled to meet demand over the summer. Now, they are giving the public the opportunity to get involved in their next phase of expansion through a crowd funding campaign, which will allow them to purchase the best German manufactured brewing equipment off the coast of East Africa.

They located top quality second hand equipment in Mauritius, off the East coast of Africa and are now working towards bringing it from Mauritius to Mitchelstown for the next phase of Eight Degrees Brewing.

Owners and brewers Cam Wallace and Scott Baigent are relying on a substantial amount of bank support, but decided to think outside the box as well and the crowd funding through Linked Finance means that people can lend anything between €50 and €2,000 and get a good return for their investment.

"Crowd funding is a nice way to get fans and customers who are really passionate about our products involved, it will give them a sense of ownership and it really opens up the opportunity for investment to people from a reasonably modest level," Scott explained.

Since the campaign opened last week, they have achieved 30% of their target and are hoping to secure the rest of the funding before it closes in just three weeks.

The campaign will mean that Eight Degrees will be using the best brewing equipment in the world and it will give them a production base from which they can grow.

"It will give us the opportunity to be a landmark in Mitchelstown," Scott added.

Over the past two years, the company which was set up in 2010, has grown by 148% and they are nearing full capacity in their current brewery.

They are currently finalising plans to move somewhere bigger, but Scott assured The Avondhu that they will 'proudly remain a Mitchelstown business', as they only be moving to another location in the town. They currently employ eight people, but will be seeing an increase in their employment figures from the middle of next year.
