Minister Sean Sherlock this week signalled his intention to meet with flood relief works contractor Lagan Construction to work through issues that have arisen in relation to the planned closure of part of Fermoy’s Ashe Quay in June.

This week the Minister told The Avondhu he’d been in contact with senior officials at the OPW and met with the Rowing Club.

“It is my firm intention to meet with Lagan on a senior level to work through the current issues. I have and will continue to work at all levels on this to ensure progress is made,” he assured.

The closure of part of the quay has forced the cancellation of the rowing club’s annual regatta. Kieran Barry, manager of Fermoy Community Youth Centre spoke to this paper last week about the severe effects the road closure would have on business at his venue which is heavily booked for the summer.

At their meeting last week, members of Fermoy Town Council also agreed to seek a meeting with the OPW and Lagan to discuss the Ashe Quay works. It’s understood that meeting is in the process of being arranged.
