We had two teams in action last week, the U12s and the U10s. Both had very satisfactory results.

Glenroe 6-3 Kilteely 0-2

This was the first round of the second phase of the U12 competition. Despite not having a full turnout, they gave a good account of themselves. Mark Faust and Brian Howard were the two absentees. Our opponents had the edge with physical size, but Glenroe were much more skilful. The first half was a close affair with Glenroe going in at half-time with a very slender lead despite playing the much better hurling. But a pep talk from the managers at half-time saw a big improvement.

They completely dominated the second half and ran out easy winners in the end.

The Glenroe panel was: Killian Meade, Mikey O’Dea, Edmond Noonan, Daniel Blade, Danny Hayes, Tommy McDonnell, Marie Buckley, Michael Cleery, Shaun Moloney, Rhys Fitzgerald, Patrick Holian, Shane O’Donoghue, Adam McDonnell, George Fox, Oisín Browne and Shane O’Kelly.

Glenroe 1-1 Garryspillane 1-0

On Saturday last we travelled down to Knocklong to play in a county U10 blitz. There was supposed to be three teams, but one of them, Kilteely did not turn up. Instead of a blitz, we played Garryspillane in a match. As they had sixteen players and we had seventeen, it was agreed to play 16-a-side. Glenroe made a great start getting two early scores, a goal from Zach McCarthy and a point from Conor McGrath. We managed to hold Garryspillane scoreless until half-time. The score at the interval was 1-1 to 0-0 in our favour.

Garryspillane had the benefit of the wind in the second half and soon had our backs under pressure. Midway through this half, Garryspillane managed to pull our lead back to a single point when they scored a goal. From here to the finish it was exciting stuff as we bravely defended our one point lead. Garryspillane failed to add to their score and Glenroe ran out deserving winners.

The Glenroe panel was Billy Ryan, Conor Howard, Colin Davern, Robbie Downey, Keelan Riordan,Shane Halpin, Conor McGrath, Zach McCarthy, Sinead Halpin, Laoise Browne, Tom Fitzgerald, Cilléin O’Brien, John Magner, Luke Cooney, Sean Meade, Luke Price and Caoimhe Howard.

GUESS THE SCORE COMPETITION

The cards for this competition should be handed back as soon as possible. All families have been given cards. They may be given to Eamonn McCarthy, Michael O’Leary or any committee member by Saturday next.

SUMMER CAMP

This year we are amalgamating with Ballylanders Football Club and having the one camp. This will be held the week commencing 8th July. Further details will be available later.

Our U15 and U16 hurlers are on a break at the moment due to exams. We would like to wish all of our players doing the Junior/Leaving Cert the best as they head into exams next week.

Best of luck to Stevie Walsh and the Limerick team as they take on Tipperary in the Munster championship this coming Sunday.
