Whiskey bottles and tools left by workmen in the 1800s have been found in the roof space of Saint George’s as refurbishment work begins.

Bill Power of Saint George Art and Heritage Centre said that it was great to see construction work commence.

Bill spoke to The Avondhu about what was discovered inside the structure, as specialist workers opened the roof space earlier this week, for the first time since it was constructed.

“All the work we have been doing has been leading to this, this is saving the building. We will look at the steeple down the road, but putting a roof on this building will secure it for the future,” he said.
