Major changes to wastewater infrastructure have been proposed in the new Draft Cork Wastewater Strategy, which is now open for public consultation, with notable proposals for villages such as Carraig na bhFear, Whitechurch, Knockraha and Watergrasshill.
Under the proposals, Carraig na bhFear Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is proposed to be decommissioned, for 2030, with flows to be transferred via a new wastewater transfer pipeline to Whitechurch. A new wastewater transfer pumping station is proposed to be constructed.
The Grenagh Catchment is also to see such works, with decommissioning of the existing WWTP and flow transferred to Whitechurch by 2055. In the meantime, it is proposed to optimise the WWTP to bring to compliance with Emission Limit Values (ELVs).
