Rob Merrigan from Watergrasshill, Mairead O’Mahony from Berrings and transplant athletes from Mallow, West Cork and elsewhere, met with President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina at Áras an Uachtarain recently.
28 Transplant Sport Ireland athletes, including liver, kidney, bone marrow, heart and double lung transplant recipients, along with members of the U18 Transplant Sport Ireland team and the Living Donor team, were among those to attend.
During the trip, the group had an informative tour and afternoon tea was served. Meeting with the President, he acknowledged the great success of the group at the European Sports Championships in Lisbon in August 2024 and at the British Transplant Games held in Nottingham, where athletes, including U18s, enjoyed remarkable success.
