Day one of this year’s Tour de Munster is fast approaching and villages and towns along the route will get a chance to see these brave two-wheeled warriors striving to complete an epic 600km cycle, to raise vital funds for the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI).

Stage 1 will see cyclists journey from Cork to Killaloe, a 185km trek on Thursday, August 8th, with some mountainous terrain to be tackled as Lismore and Clogheen feature on the route. Set to depart from Cork (Clayton Silversprings Hotel) at 8.10am and stopping shortly after in Cork (Grand depart from the English Market, Grand Parade at 9am), participants will head to Midleton (10.15am) where a toilet stop will be facilitated, before it’s onwards to Tallow in Co Waterford (arriving 11.30am), Lismore at kilometre 65 (12 noon), then winding its way to Clogheen (refreshments in Clogheen Community Hall), arriving at 1.15 and departing again at 2pm, before heading to Cahir, Tipperary, onward to Limerick and later that day, finally arriving in Killaloe (Lakeside Hotel) at 7.15pm.

Excitement is building for the 24th running of the event, with over 100 amateur cyclists now adding the finishing touches to their training preparations. Stage 2 on Friday 9th will take participants from Killaloe to Tralee (150km), with Saturday 10th seeing the entourage travel onwards to Kenmare in co Kerry (147km). The final day from Kenmare to Cork on Sunday, August 11th will see the finish line in Cork (Clayton Silversprings Hotel) reached approx. 5pm.

This year’s Tour marks a significant occasion as the renowned charity cycle will contribute to the national charity for its 15th consecutive year. Since its inception in 2000, the Tour de Munster has raised a staggering €5 million for DSI. The vital funds raised have a significant impact on the lives and development of children and adults with Down syndrome across the Munster region.
