A local donation drive for victims of last Monday’s devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria has been organised, and a truck courtesy of Dairygold will be transporting donated goods to Dublin Airport over the weekend, to be flown onwards to the stricken region by Turkish Airlines.
Co-ordinated by Turkish native Murat Terzi, who lives in Kilworth, collections are being made in both Mitchelstown and Kilworth on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week.
A list of items needed has been published by the Turkish Embassy; details of items needed and collection times are listed at the end of this article. All items will be going to the Red Cross to be distributed by the aid agency.
It should be noted that donated items need to be unused or new to reduce possible contamination, and donors are asked not to deviate from the list of items, as the plane cannot be overloaded.
