Local cleric a voice for peace in war torn West Africa

This weekend will see local man Monsignor Michael Crotty ordained a bishop ahead of his taking up a challenging post in West Africa. 

The Mitchelstown native has served in diverse places such as Kenya, Canada and war torn Iraq but as the leading Vatican diplomat begins the next phase of his vocation, he said he recalls the critical part the Avondhu region played in his life. 

This newspaper met with Monsignor Crotty as he made final preparations ahead of moving to Burkina Faso where he will be Apostolic Nuncio of that country and Niger.

He will be ordained a Bishop but with the title of Archbishop.
