Drawing on their own resources and with some assistance from Waterford County Council, Lismore has once again lit up spectacularly for the Christmas season.
The official switching on ceremony took place in the town centre on Wednesday, 7th December. Fr Michael Cullinan and Dean Paul Draper were joined by community activists for an event that included carol singing, the blessing of the tidy towns crib and a mulled wine reception hosted by Mary Fintan Morrissey of Mary FM Fashions on the main street.
In a joint blessing by the two clergy men, those present were encouraged to embrace the deep significance of Christmas in the Christian calendar and to use the festive season to reach out to those in need. Both clerics acknowledged the great voluntary effort in erecting the lights.
Following formalities, those present were invited to the reception in Mary FM Fashions. Using a family recipe, Mary created a delicious festive refreshment that was enjoyed by all. The Christmas lights organising committee thanked Mary for her hospitality as well paying tribute to Michael McBride and George Hennessy who oversaw the construction and locating of the nativity crib.
