Kilworth lost one its more senior of citizens with the recent death of Kitty Keane, formerly of Glenseskin which took place on Friday, January 13 just a few days short of her 91st birthday.
Nee Houlihan, Kitty was sadly missed from the community when she moved to Amberley Nursing Home following the death of her husband Ned in June 2014. A keen gardener, Kitty had received a number of awards for her beautiful flower garden when she tended with great care and attention. Indeed, Kitty and her sister Sheila (Hogan) who pre-deceased her in January 2013, were regular visitors to Carmel’s Garden Centre, seldom leaving without another plant or shrub of some kind.
Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, Kitty was a staunch member of the local St Martin’s Church choir and as a fitting tribute to her, the choir sang at her funeral Mass on Monday 16th.
The Houlihan family was one of the oldest families in Kilworth and sadly, Kitty was the last of that line. She loved nothing better than to reminisce about old times and of her neighbours and relations who lived in the village and ‘the lane’ she was so very proud of. It was not unusual for her to be visited on a fairly regular basis people from abroad wishing to find their roots and, more often than not, she was able to be of assistance.
Thursday morning was very special for her as she eagerly awaited the arrival of The Avondhu and she loved to see her friends who called to her at Amberley. Another highlight, was the visit of local singers and musicians who call regularly to the nursing home.
Very fashion conscious, Kitty was always ‘dressed to the nines’ and was usually to be seen in her hallmark red.
Having spent a short time in England, she met and married her beloved Ned who was a native of Ring, Co Waterford. She was laid to rest in Kilcrumper old cemetery following Requiem Mass in St Martin’s Church, Kilworth.
To her nieces, nephew, relatives and friends, we extend our deepest sympathy.
