Kilworth Astro Pitch (K.A.P.) was officially opened by Mayor of County Cork, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn last Friday morning. Part of Scoil Mhairtin, Cill Uird (St. Martin’s National School, Kilworth), pupils have ‘first call’ on the AstroTurf, however, after school, it’s available to local organisations who can hire the facility – as a result, it’s extensively used.

The synthetic grass pitch was funded through a combination of funding from a Sports Capital grant, the Tomar Trust and Blackwater LEADER.

WELCOME BY THE PRIOMHOIDE

Fellow teachers, pupils and invited guests were welcomed by principal, Helen Leddy, who said it was a historic day for the school. She went on to acknowledge the many individuals and groups who helped make Kilworth Astro Pitch a reality. She then introduced the keynote speaker, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn, Mayor of the County of Cork.
