Two Kilworth food scientists have travelled to the US to launch a new research project to help babies better deal with the trauma of c-section birth.
The Avondhu duo, Professors Paul Ross and Catherine Stanton who are with APC Microbiome Ireland, are leading the study which is based at University College Cork in tandem with Teagasc Moorepark.
It is a pioneer in the field of microbiome science, which focuses on microbes that live in and on the body and play a significant role in human health.
Balancing the gut
APC Microbiome Ireland SFI Research Centre is ranked number one globally for research in antimicrobial and therapeutic microbes and is in the top five institutions in the world for microbiome research.
