Killavullen celebrates 250 years of Presentation Sisters

Nano Nagle and a small group of like-minded individuals founded the Presentation Sisters in Cork city on Christmas Eve, 1775. As they wished each other season’s greetings, they could never have imagined the Order would go on to establish itself in 19 countries throughout the world.

Nano Nagle was unusual on a number of fronts, most notably being a Roman Catholic who came from a wealthy Irish family, at a time when legislation was passed by the British government outlawing her religion. It would have been an easier option to maintain her comfortable status, marry well and lead an ordinary life.
