Disquiet re proposed Pearse Square parking trial

Disquiet has arisen among some members of the business community in Fermoy after a recommendation to convert all parking spaces in Pearse Square to 15-minute spaces on a trial basis.

A letter addressed to ‘councillors and relevant officials’, sent on Friday to several local businesses in the town following the publication of a front page report in The Avondhu, alleged that a number of affected stakeholders were not asked for their views on the topic. The anonymous letter, signed by ‘concerned stakeholders’, also claimed that a subgroup of Fermoy Forum, whom brought forward proposals for traffic and parking in the town, ‘does not reflect all views and does not speak for all businesses and stakeholders in Pearse Square’. 

‘Parking in Pearse Square affects trade, customer access, short visits, accommodation, deliveries, loading, living and general convenience. For that reason, we believe there should be an open and wider consultation before any new line marking, repainting, or related works take place,’ the letter reads.
