It was with huge delight the word spread around Killavullen in the early hours of Sunday morning that local man James Deane claimed the unique title of being hailed and crowned formula drift world champion for the third time in a row, an honour which has not be held by any other person in the Drifting World.
Representing Worthouse and Falken, a championship isn’t won in a single race meeting, it is the culmination of a season of drifting which James has mastered yet again this year.
Motorsport is in James' blood, and the Deane family name is synonymous with building cars for racing and in motorsport generally in Ireland.
He took part in his first competitive drift event in Ireland when he was 15 and was duly awarded his pro license. By the age of 16 he had already won his first Irish Prodrift Championship, and was crowned Prodrift European Champion the same year.
Following an invitation to compete at the Red Bull World Drift Championship in California, James has gone on to become one of the most recognisable names in the world of drifting.
The people of the area look forward to the return of the World champion and getting the chance to see the magnificent trophy 'one more time'. Congratulations James!
