Just over half a day after Cork’s All-Ireland champions were welcomed onto a packed Grand Parade, St Catherine’s woman Laura Hayes was still speaking through a hoarse voice when she spoke with The Avondhu on Tuesday morning.
Hayes started in midfield and contributed a point as Cork came from behind to defeat Galway by 2-14 to 0-19 at Croke Park on Sunday.
The single-point victory secured Cork’s 31st senior title and their third in four years, with a record crowd of 33,419 watching on.
While the final whistle brought immediate relief and elation, Hayes explained that the scale of the achievement only began to sink in the following morning.
“When you’re a winner, that feeling in the morning is just unbelievable when you meet everyone again, and you just know that it’s actually real,” she said.
