When the Indiependence team were awarded a grant from the Department of Culture, the Mitchelstown lads sat around wondering how to use it, with capacity capped, restrictions in place or unknown, and generally, a lot of barriers.
Then, Kieran Walsh said, “Why are we overthinking this? We know what we want to do – we want to do something at home.”
And so, ‘Autumn Air’ was born. This September, Mitchelstown will play host to some of the biggest names in Irish music across four intimate venues – The Hunters Rest, An Bodhrán, Walsh’s and Jackie O’Brien’s.
Shane Dunne spoke to The Avondhu about bringing the festival spirit back to his hometown. First of all, how did he keep it so quiet?
