What was described as ‘a mature debate on immigration’ was held outside the gates of Fermoy Town Park last Monday night.

Conditions were dire, with the hour long meeting taking place in continuous rain. One of the event organisers, Peter O’Donoghue from Bartlemy, apologised to those in attendance.

“Attempts were made to secure an indoor venue, however, this wasn’t possible, as no individual or business was prepared to accommodate the meeting, it’s all very sad really,” he said.

Peter went on to lay down the ‘rules of engagement’ for the meeting, which were that all speakers be respected, no personal remarks were to be made and every point of view was to be given due consideration.
