As the final of The Voice of Ireland approaches on Sunday, all local hopes are pinned on Kilbehenny’s Kellie Lewis, who is now the bookies second favourite to win.
This week, there was a heroes welcome for Kellie, as hundreds of children and people from Kilbehenny and further afield crowded outside Kilbehenny Community Centre on Tuesday to greet Kellie and her coach Dolores O’Riordan.
Kellie told The Avondhu, that she was blown away by the amount of people who had gathered in the village to greet her and she really appreciates everyone who has voted so far, but she urged them to vote again on Sunday, as it is the public votes that have gotten her this far.
With the bookies, Kellie is second favourite, while Brendan McCahey is favourite and Kellie admitted that while the finalists are all very good and she would love to win, she can see a real competitor in Brendan.
She told The Avondhu that Dolores loved Kilbehenny and she really enjoyed her visit.
Throughout the competition, Kellie has gotten some harsh criticisms over song choice, but she did really well last week singing Cosmic Love by Florence and the Machine and she said that she is really looking forward to her performances on Sunday’s show.
“You don’t know what way the cookie will crumble until the night, but I can’t wait for Sunday. If it wasn’t for the public, I would have been on my bike home a long time ago, but I need them to vote on Sunday when the lines open,” Kellie said.
She added that the local support has been fantastic and the turnout in Kilbehenny on Tuesday was really amazing.
Kellie’s parents Willie and Mary thanked everyone who has voted so far and they wanted to urge people to pick up their phones and vote again on Sunday, as the result on Sunday will be pegged on who the public want to see crowned as The Voice of Ireland 2014.
