Hi Digital shortlisted for 2025 National Age Friendly awards

A project showcasing a local senior couple’s journey in embracing the IT challenge with Vodafone Foundation’s Hi Digital programme, is one of three Cork-based initiatives that have been shortlisted for the 2025 National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards, organised by Age Friendly Ireland.

Mitchelstown’s Patrick and Liz Downes featured in the successful Hi Digital initiative, which has received favourable recognition, an initiative that seeks to improve digital skills and online confidence among those aged 65, helping to combat isolation and loneliness. It has now been shortlisted in the Age Friendly Communications Award category of the national awards, along with Limerick Libraries Digital Tablet Lending (Vodafone) and Carlow Older People’s Council Information Hub.

It is one of three Cork-based initiatives have been shortlisted for the national awards, along with EnergyCloud Age Friendly Pilot (Age Friendly Environment Award) and the Age Friendly Emergency Services Engagement Expo (Age Friendly Safety & Security Award). Each has been recognised for their outstanding contribution to creating inclusive, supportive communities where older people can live well, feel valued, and stay connected.
