Heroes’ welcome for Ballygiblin’s finest

At this stage, celebrations have eased but not ended, as Ballygiblin hurlers and their supporters dine out on the fact that they are the best junior hurling team in Ireland.

Having come up just short last year against Mooncoin, there was no mistake at the second time of asking, as the team in red and white ground out a hard fought win over Connaught champions, Easkey from Sligo in Croke Park on Saturday.

A day that will live long in the memory, a combination of celebrating, bad weather, traffic congestion and other factors, meant the team bus didn’t arrive back in Mitchelstown until after midnight last Saturday night (Sunday morning).

No matter, celebrations went ahead, with club officers sensibly deciding on an official homecoming ceremony on Sunday morning.
