A decade or so ago, the sport of triathlon (swimming, cycling and running) was relatively unknown in Fermoy. All that changed however with the formation of Blackwater Triathlon Club and their decision to organise the Blackwater Triathlon. 

Last Saturday marked the 10th anniversary of a triathlon that has proved a huge hit with competitors from throughout Ireland and beyond.

While it would be a challenge for many towns to host such an event, Fermoy, thanks to its town centre river, adjacent park and nearby roads network, is an ideal location.

Good weather is another bonus and on Saturday last, conditions were perfect for the swim (750m), cycle (20km) and run (6km) …
