A bit of religion, some culture and plenty of old fashioned fun sum up the annual St. John's Night (Bonfire Night) celebrations in Glenville. 

An ancient tradition that coincides with the longest day, Bonfire Night, is particularly strong in Cork City with Glenville one of the few outlying villages that has its own programme of events for the occasion. 

The bonfire had been readied from early in the day and under adult supervision, it was ignited, with onlookers kept at a safe distance.
