Local athletes bring home gold from the Special Olympics

Colm Mulcahy from Ballynoe, who participated as a basketball athlete in the Ireland Special Olympic Games in the National Sports Complex in Blanchardstown, Dublin at the weekend representing Munster. Members of the Munster Special Olympics Team from the local area came home with medals of every colour from the national Special Olympics held which was held from Friday, 15 until Sunday, 17June in Dublin. 

An impressive 536 medals came home with the Munster team out of the 2,144 medals awarded to athletes over the course of the weekend. 

Some local winners participated in football, athletics, golf, bowling, swimming and gymnastics among other sports.

Of course, participation in itself is a fantastic achievement and all those who competed at Olympic level should be very proud of themselves.
