
Derryvillane Cemetery, locally known as the ‘old church and graveyard’ in Glanworth, is to be closed until further notice after remains were discovered exposed at the site.
Last week, The Avondhu received reports of bones, believed to be human, seen scattered at the old graveyard, understood to have been brought to the surface by an animal burrowing.
Glanworth local, Jennifer Conroy, spoke with The Avondhu last week after she had discovered the bones while walking in the area.
“Something had bored a small hole, I can’t imagine anything else it could be, only some kind of animal. I often walk in that area, and I’ve never seen anything like it. It was horrible. It’s a very sensitive subject because it is human remains,” she said.
