Operation Transformation participants in Ballynoe went through a lot during their 8 weeks of intense training. The group, mainly women, were a familiar sight as they pounded the footpaths of their village.

The man charged with getting the ladies fighting fit was Tom Corcoran and the verdict is he did an excellent job with his recruits. Aside from the odd roar (of encouragement), the sessions were really enjoyed and the group built up a great team spirit during the 'transformation'.

The serious side to the village runs and Ballynoe boot camp was the cause that benefited, namely, the Irish Cancer Society who have built up a huge reservoir of goodwill with the Irish people over the years. Unfortunately, nearly ever single person in this country knows someone who has battled cancer. Thankfully, increasing numbers are winning that battle.

Irish Cancer Society representative, Eileen Kearney was in Ballynoe Community Centre last Friday evening to receive a cheque for €1,200 - proceeds of the Operation Transformation fundraiser. Eileen was full of praise for the contestants who had set about bettering their own health, while at the same time remembering those whose health was being threatened by cancer.

Babs Sheehan and Therese O'Keeffe had the honour of handing over the cheque which they were delighted to do. Nora and Therese said the Operation Transformation group were honoured to do their bit for such a worthy and deserving cause.
