Cork County Council is inviting the owners and custodians of historic and protected structures to apply for grant funding under the Historic Structure Fund (HSF) 2025, and the Historic Thatch Building Stream of the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2025.

The Historic Structure Fund assists the conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings and awards a small number of grants ranging from €50,000 up to €200,000, with a focus on larger enhancement, refurbishment or reuse projects involving heritage structures. Projects must be advanced through the planning process as necessary.

While the Historic Thatched Buildings Stream (BHIS) protects historic thatched roof buildings across Ireland. Owners or occupiers of historic thatched structures (domestic or commercial) can apply for 80% of total cost of the conservation works, up to a maximum value of €20,000.

ENCOURAGE APPLICATIONS

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll emphasised the importance of protecting our historic buildings.

“Our historic structures are more than bricks and mortar, they tell stories of our history and bygone generations. Protecting them is not just about preservation, it’s about honouring our past while looking to the future. I encourage people to consider applying for these schemes if they have a building in need of attention, so that they can be protected and enjoyed for many years to come.”

Cork County Council will administer the grant schemes on behalf of the National Built Heritage Service (NBHS) and application forms and guidance documents are available on the Council’s website (www.corkcoco.ie)

Applications may be addressed to the ‘Historic Structure Fund 2025’ or ‘Historic Thatched Buildings 2025,’ Conservation Office, Floor 3, Planning Department, County Hall, Cork or sent by e-mail to conservation@corkcoco.ie

The deadline for submission of completed application forms to each scheme is 4pm on Friday, 17th January, 2025.  Applications can be made under both schemes, but only one grant can be awarded per structure.
