From Glenroe to Calais

Many thanks again to all who supported the recent coffee morning and online appeal for the Calais Refugee camps in France.

Glenroe ladies Anne Marie and Mary Coffey travelled there on August 12th and worked for three days with the charities, Help Refugees and L’Auberge de Migrants.

For over a year now, these two charities and many others have been working to meet the needs of over 6,000 people in the camps and unfortunately the numbers are growing all the time, with no end to the problem in sight.

Work being done includes building shelters, providing material to the migrants to build shelters, chopping and delivering firewood for heat and cooking and distributing clothes, bedding, toiletries and food on a daily basis.

The charities provide funding to the kitchens, the youth centre, the women’s centre and more.
