Blackwater Way (Avondhu) Walking Trails extend their sincere gratitude to the numerous farmers who have generously allowed permission for the walking trails to traverse their lands. Their support is the backbone of this incredible journey, connecting nature enthusiasts with the picturesque landscapes.

One such farmer, William Leahy, welcomes us on a crisp November afternoon. Vibrant autumnal colours surround us, complemented by the boundless energy of William’s dog, Ruffles. As a dairy farmer managing a busy farm with his brother Patrick, William takes pride in sharing what it is like to live right on the Blackwater Way (Avondhu).

The trail weaves through Castleblagh Woods, crossing William’s farm leading into the woodlands of Kylenahoory. At this intersection, where the two woods converge, walkers get a glimpse of everyday farming life. Here, in Castleblagh, near Ballyhooly village, the Leahy family has dedicated generations to dairy farming.
