Gardai are warning small businesses in the Nort East Cork reagion regarding the dreaded Invoice Redirect Fraud scam where online fraudsters are presently active.
Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant John Kelly, has told The Avondhu that people should be careful about email traffic and unannounced phone calls looking for personal details.
Gardai have said that in some instances, businesses have been tricked in to handing over large sums of money only for the recipient to be a criminal.
He explained: “This is a high risk problem for businesses. One thing that is big at the moment, across the country, there have been incidents in Fermoy and Mitchelstown as well, is by invoice redirect fraud.
