Newry-based band, The 4 Of Us released their first album, Songs for the Tempted, with CBS Records in 1989, with the single ‘Mary’, becoming one of the most played songs on Irish radio that year.

Consequently, the album went double platinum in Ireland and won Best Album of the Year at the Irish Music Awards, defeating the internationally-known act U2.

The 4 Of Us are best known outside Ireland for their output in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Of the four founding members, only brothers Brendan and Declan Murphy have remained continuously part of the group and The Village Arts Centre is honoured to play host to them on Friday, July 15.

Their album Man Alive followed on Sony/Columbia Records in 1992, and saw the group enter the UK charts for the first time, with the album entering the chart at #64, and the single ‘She Hits Me’, spending four weeks in the charts peaking at #35.

An acoustic set from brothers Brendan and Declan will be an evening to be savoured when they will treat his to some lovely quiet numbers interspersed with some great upbeat ones.

Both the lads and the venue have agreed to keep ticket prices as low as possible so at €15 and €12.50, there’s a real treat in store.

We would ask you to please book your tickets in time from the usual outlets: The Avondhu office, Fermoy (025-32227); Cotter’s Bar, Kilworth (025-27109 after 5pm); Hyland’s Bookshop, Mitchelstown (025-24528) or call 087-6492514.
