Flooding experienced across the area

Midleton is among the worst-hit locations in Cork, as in excess of 100 houses in the Midleton and East Cork area were under water following Storm Babet on Wednesday.

For the second week running flooding was again experienced on the main street in Rathcormac, as well as several other local areas on Wednesday October 18, as weather conditions deteriorated into the evening, as the area hunkered down under an Orange weather warning resulting from Storm Babet.

Speaking with The Avondhu on Wednesday evening, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Frank O’Flynn explained that the Defence Forces were being deployed in several locations as emergency support to deal with the flooding, which has led to in excess of 100 houses being flooded, particularly in the Midleton and East Cork region.

EXTREME FLOODING

According to Mayor O’Flynn, several local and regional roads were also closed off due to flooding, with Rathcormac, Molly Barry’s Cross in Kilworth and parts of Conna being the worst affected within the Fermoy Municipal District.
