Almost 100 people eagerly made their way into Kildorrery Community Hall on Thursday last, to have their say and get involved in the future of the village at a community information meeting.

Through a walk of the village, ideas for different areas of the village were discussed, such as the development of the community field and the old creamery yard, which was recently purchased and will soon have car parking facilities.

The progress and work completed to date by the Kildorrery Community Development Association was outlined by Tomas Keating, while Pa Walsh gave an overview of the finances of the group.  

In addressing the meeting, Carmel Fox, CEO of Ballyhoura Development Ltd, congratulated the community on the work done to date and she said that looking forward, plans need to be made for the development of the field and creamery site, as well as focussing on what the community needs. 

This will focus on developing a five-year socio economic plan for the village and the needs of the community, now and into the future will be assessed and identified. The Kildorrery Community Plan will aim to represent the community's vision for how people would like to see Kildorrery develop and grow into the future.

On the night, Siobhan Skinner and David Myers also made a presentation to Fr Tadgh O'Donovan who has been in the village for seven months, but is now being transferred to Midleton. He was very active in community development and the community extended their best wishes to him in the future.

A minute's silence was also held for the late Johnny Dunne, who was a founding member of the association and will be dearly missed by all in Kildorrery.

CONSULTATION MEETING

To follow on from this meeting, there will be a public consultation meeting on September 24 and everyone is urged to come along and have their voice heard.

Chairman, David Myers said that this was a very positive meeting for Kildorrery, but that in order to meet the needs of the community, he is urging people to attend the next meeting on September 24.

"This will ensure that everyone will have their say and we can move forward together over the next number of years with our five year plan," he said.
