Local rowers came out on top at the Irish Rowing Championships 2021, which saw over 503 crews competing at the National Rowing Centre Cork.
With last year’s competition cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, returning athletes this year had the chance to compete in a J19 category to allow the previous year’s J18 athletes a chance to compete.
The new Women’s J19 single scull category saw Fermoy rowers Alison Bergin and Aine O’Mahony competing, with Alison victorious, while Aine finished 4th in the final.
According to coach Ray Morrison, Alison had to ‘work hard’ to fight off strong competition from Grace Healy of Commercial RC in Dublin.
