An Post have confirmed to The Avondhu that they are seeking a new retail partner to run a Post Office in Fermoy.
It is understood that the current postmaster in the town, Michael Hegarty – who operates the business from Patrick Street – is retiring later in the year.
A spokesperson for An Post said the ‘process is in train’ in their search for a new retail partner with applications currently being accepted. While the largest Post Offices are typically owned and run by An Post, around 1,200 outlets are run by retail partners, known as postmasters.
Interested applicants may register their interest by completing an application form online, which details the person’s personal and financial details, their business proposal, drawings and photographs of the premises from which they propose to operate the Post Office, as well as other tax details.
As such, the new location for the Fermoy Post Office may mean a move from its current location on Patrick Street. An Post said this will depend on whoever becomes the new retail partner in the town.
