Local photographer Jim Lysaght, has captured the unique natural beauty of Fermoy and it’s environs in his 2015 calendar to raise funds for the local branch of St Vincent de Paul.

Each images is closely related to the month it appears with, for instance January is a winter scene with Highland cattle grazing by bare trees alongside the river at Barnane. The calendar warms up as the pages turn; June features a stunning photograph of a dragonfly perched on a leaf, a symbol of summer.

The photograph of the front of the calendar, a shot of Pearse Square framed overhead by a rainbow, presented itself to Mr Lysaght by chance one afternoon.

“The photograph on the front is something that happened by pure accident last year on a Saturday. It was one of those rainy days we got last September. I just happened to be coming out of Michael Hanley’s, maybe around six o’clock in the evening and it started to pour rain and suddenly, this rainbow appeared in the sky over Pearse Square and it framed the whole square.”

Jim said quite a few calendars have been sold already, and that it makes for an excellent present for friends and relatives abroad, as the calendar comes with a large envelope ready for posting.

The calendars are on sale in Birmingham’s Newsagent, Fermoy and cost €7.99, with all profits going to the Fermoy branch of St Vincent de Paul.
