The first round results for the 2016 IBAL competition were released this week, with Fermoy in tied 15th place alongside Sligo Town.
Fermoy were deemed ‘Clean to European Norms’ by judges and were the highest placed town in County Cork. Kilkenny once again topped the table of 40 towns and cities around the country, with the final year results expected to be announced in early 2017.
In their report card, the IBAL judges graded 10 areas around Fermoy with six A’s and four B’s. Particular praise was given to the ‘excellent’ Clancy Street Playground: “The area was surrounded by railings painted the colours of the rainbow; playground equipment was in very good order; seating was brightly painted and the grass was neatly cut.”
Pearse Square received an A and credit was given to the various individual shops which were noted as being ‘well presented’ while the square itself was ‘greatly enhanced by the substantial planting and lovely olde style street lamp’ and was described as a ‘very clean and tidy environment’.
