The 3 days of racing at Cork Racecourse, Mallow, drew record attendances to this excellent facility. This event proved another feather in the cap of manager, Michael O'Neill and Mary Kelly who heads up the marketing division. The harder you work, the luckier you get adage certainly applied with positively balmy weather on all 3 days, Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Monday.
Sunday was ladies' day with Michel Jewellers in Cork acting as main sponsors. The standard was incredibly high with great care being taken with regard to dress, shoes, hat and accessories. The boys were also encouraged to spruce themselves up and younger men in particular rose to the challenge with well tailored suits and dickie bows being the look of choice among fashion conscious males - Barry's menswear, Mallow came up with a €500 gift voucher for the winner.
TOP CLASS RACING
Owners such as Gigginstown House Stud and J.P. McManus were represented along with leading trainers, Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott. As a result, winning wasn't easy and picking a winner was harder still. This scenario didn't deter punters who had the option of bookmaker or tote betting.
There was considerable uptake for the corporate package of dining in the Premium Level restaurant, which included a 4 course meal and private viewing balcony. With food comes drink and bar staff were exceptionally busy over the 3 days.
Cork Racecourse also catered for 'non racing' families and a range of activities were laid on for children - live music came courtesy of the Pat Barrett Jazz Explosion. On Easter Monday, there was a spectacular parade of hounds by the Duhallow Hunt.
Mallow town centre was another beneficiary of the festival with hotels and pubs experiencing a spike in business over the weekend.
The next date of note for Cork Racecourse, Mallow is Monday, 20th April when there will be a flat racing programme - evening racing takes place on 8th May and 22nd May.
