The countywide heats for the Cork Over 60’s Talent Contest have now wrapped up, with Carmel O’Connor from Fermoy crowned the runaway winner of the Fermoy/Mitchelstown heat held in TO Park on Tuesday week last.

Ms O’Connor sang a song by Johnny McEvoy, seeing off the other seven contestants, to book her place in the Cork county semi-final, set to take place in City Hall on Sunday, April 26.

Contest organiser Paddy O’Brien paid tribute to all the competitors, as well as the large crowd that turned out to support the night. He thanked John O’Mahony, chairperson of Fermoy & District Active Retirement, who organised a bus which catered for 40 people from Fermoy to attend.

Mr O’Brien also thanked all those at TO Park for their assistance and hospitality on the night. He added that tickets for the semi-final are now on-sale, and can be purchased from either himself (086-8105585) or John O’Mahony in Fermoy. Equally tickets can be purchased from Blackpool Shopping Centre or Pro Musica on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork.

Ms O’Connor is now in rehearsals for the semi-final stage of the contest - we wish her the best of luck on her path to the finals.
