The dangers of illegal prescription drugs have been highlighted by a Fermoy pharmacist, in response to Monday afternoon’s seizure by Gardaí of €14,000 worth of suspected Xanax tablets at a house in Watergrasshill. 

7,000 tablets of suspected Xanax, a Benzodiazepene class drug used for treating anxiety disorders, have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland following the discovery of the tablets by members of Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit in a raid in the East Cork village.

Fermoy pharmacist Michael Lyons, welcomed news of the seizure, saying: “Taking any medication or tablets that are not indicated for you is very risky behaviour.”
