It is quite understandable that the residents of Strawhall are up in arms over the escalating incidences of illegal dumping in their area. There are numerous places all around The Avondhu readership area where this ugly practice can be found. Black bags are dumped on roadsides and are left to the birds to investigate and magnify the problem all the more.

But then as any Tidy Towns activist will tell you, it is not unusual to clean up the approach roads to a village or town, only to find the wrappings of a take-away or some other ‘on the go’ beverage container carelessly discarded again within a few short hours. No wonder then why these unthinking people (who are most likely quite house proud), wantonly dump their domestic refuse in the ditches and hedgerows, sometimes just yards from ‘no dumping’ signs.

With the culprits showing a flagrant disregard for residents and indeed for the county council, the call goes out to name and shame the perpetrators and to install CCTV or covert cameras in black spot areas. So, should you happen to be one of those who discards their rubbish in this way, then do so with a smile, because on your next dumping session, you may just find yourself caught on camera!
