An overturned tractor trailer prompted the closure of the road from Ballylanders to Garryspillane for several hours on Tuesday of this week. The driver of the tractor escaped serious injury after the vehicle, which was loaded to capacity with square bales of hay, toppled off the side of the road and ended up in an adjoining field.

Gardai from Bruff Garda Station were alerted to the accident at 12.20pm and were at the scene shortly afterwards. Members from Limerick County Council diverted traffic off the main stretch of road and repaired a section of the road that was damaged during the incident.

A council worker attending the scene said thankfully, nobody was hurt. “The driver was lucky and thank God nobody was travelling in the opposite direction when he lost control of the tractor. It could have been very nasty.”

The road was reopened to the public at 3.30pm.
